The Cloudline

Cloudline is a residential development of eight single-family homes in Bottmingen, Switzerland, designed by Raymond Gaëtan Architecture. The project combines a strong architectural identity with flexible living spaces and a close connection to the surrounding landscape.

The homes are positioned to maximise sunlight, views and privacy, with generous west-facing gardens and terraces. Their distinctive curved roofs reinterpret the traditional Swiss farmhouse and create a continuous, recognisable silhouette along the street. Timber screens, large openings and integrated balconies further strengthen the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces.

The project was developed using Rhino and VisualARQ. VisualARQ’s 3D modelling tools and parametric architectural objects were used extensively to create and manage the building geometry, including the project’s distinctive curved forms. Its documentation tools were also essential for generating and updating the architectural drawings efficiently throughout the design process.

Each house is organised across several levels and includes approximately 7.5 rooms. The layouts provide adaptable spaces for guests, home offices or family needs, while the main living areas open directly onto the garden. Bedrooms and terraces occupy the upper floors, and the vaulted attic offers a flexible private suite beneath the curved roof.

Cloudline presents a contemporary approach to suburban housing: compact yet private, expressive yet functional, and carefully integrated into its natural setting.
